I Seek (Chinese) Books
Question: are there any good websites where one (i.e. me) would be able to purchase books in Chinese? This would include non-kosher titles like Orwell’s 1984 (一九八四?).
Please speak up if you’re the wiser.
Thanks.

The place I work is also a book store, and most of the books are shiped from China. If you are really interested in finding some books you really like, you can come someday, and I will show you.

↓ Quote | Posted March 2, 2007, 2:00 pmI ordered 1984 online for you. It’s a Chinese website: www.dangdang.com, and it says this is the biggest Chinese online store in the world.
I had a pleasant time when I was ordering the book, so I feel like this website. I will see more about the quality of the website when I get the book.
If it is good, you can try it yourself next time. You can pay with your American bank card, and the books are shipped from China.
you might want to look at lovemandarin.com - they take Paypal payment, ship direct from Beijing, and I know a number of people who’ve been happy with the service. If they don’t have something on the site they’ll probably source it for you. Dangdang is also an option (they’re owned by amazon). Site’s all in Chinese, but I figure if you’re planning to read 1984 that’s not a problem.
↓ Quote | Posted March 11, 2007, 10:26 amOh, it won’t be me reading 1984, at least not for a long while. I don’t know what logic there is in reading a book by an English author in Chinese anyway.
Thanks for the tip, though, I’ll look in to the site.
