Beijing: Create Your Own Postcard
In response to my last post, reader Xiaoniu commented with this set of images (one, two, three) of some rather strikingly blue skies during his trip to Beijing. While they’re not quite as photogenic as the postcards I showed, they do come very close. I would much appreciate it if any readers with Beijing experience could attest to how common this is, especially after seeing this Wikipedia image (mirrored here) of a supposed “good Beijing day”/”bad Beijing day” comparison.
Perhaps nice weather is more common than I thought in Beijing, or perhaps clear skies and rainbows just follow Xiaoniu wherever he goes.
At any rate, because I can’t leave well enough alone, and in case anyone doubts the power of Photoshop, here are three alternate “postcard” versions of my Summer Palace picture that I ran through Photoshop. Aside from the sky backgrounds, I used no other source images.

They’re a bit pricey, but you can maybe pick them up cheaper on eBay, or just steal them outright from a torrent.
