China Syndrome

It’s one week into our China stay and the toll on our group is one bed-ridden chaperone and one precautionary hospitalization of a student (who is doing quite fine now, by the way). Another of us has a persistent cough and almost everyone has had a little “stomach trouble” during the adjustment to Chinese food. Even fellow blogger I am the Manchurian Candidate is feeling under the weather.

Every other aspect of our stay has been great so far, but China, at least for these first few weeks, seems to be an adventure for the Western immune system, to say the least.

  1. 4 months there. I had a cold/flu the first three months, every month, almost on the day. Last month, nothing. Since China, nothing. I could drink the water fine though.

  2. I guess probably because of the weather, you’d better not eat something too oily, and eat some more vegetables. Hope you will be better and get used to it. Good luck!

  3. When I first arrived in China, a friend of mine looked around at the sanitary conditions and said, ‘I’m probably going to melt.’
