Buckling Down on Swashbucklers
I made an off-color remark in my last post about the Chinese and piracy that I’m feeling a lingering pang of guilt about. To redeem myself, I think it’s only fair that I report on Beijing’s recent, honest attempt to crack down on piracy.
| Blockbuster movie Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest has been banned in China because of its “violent and supernatural content”.
Chinese censors have refused to allow the film to be screened. Reports suggest the Film Bureau, which is government controlled, didn’t approve of the movie’s portrayal of souls of the dead or the ferocious “octopus-faced” character, Davy Jones, played by actor Bill Nighy. Good for them. That Captain Jack Sparrow is, without doubt, the worst pirate I’ve ever seen.
I’m sorry about the piracy stuff in China. The good news is China already begins to control it, even though it is very hard to do that.
